The GE (General Electric) Innovation Centre located in Calgary, Alberta represents Canada’s global leadership in energy and industrial technologies, so it was a natural fit when GE approached Applied Electronics for a consultancy agreement for the GE Conference Centre and Innovation Centre.

Applied Electronics was responsible for designing and building the audio visual solutions for 14 conference rooms in the Conference Centre and a customer experience area known as the Innovation Centre.

In the Conference Centre, Applied Electronics worked with closely with Gensler’s Atlanta office, GE and members of the local design team to design and build eight stand-alone conference rooms in the GE Calgary office. The audio visual technologies used in the centre include: Crestron Digital Media 8G+, Crestron System Control and Automation, Crestron Room View Scheduling and Asset Management Software, Crestron RoomView scheduling panels, Cisco Telepresence, BiAmp and Polycom audio processing and hybrid teleconferencing, Christie Digital DLP projectors and Sharp 70” LED monitors.

As an extension of the Conference Centre contract, Applied Electronics was commissioned to develop the Innovation Centre which consisted of four customer experience areas and seven conference rooms. The centre’s technologies included two of Christie’s Digital MicroTile walls. The first wall is comprised of 48 tiles in a 6 high x 8 wide five degree concave radius and driven from a single workstation. The second wall is made up of 96 tiles in a six high by sixteen wide one degree concave radius and driven from seven individual workstations via Jupiter’s PixelNet video wall control processor. This allows users to display imagery from any of the workstations simultaneously or individually in any possible configuration.

Additionally, Applied also installed Sharp LED touch monitors, Cisco Telepresence, Polycom hybrid tele-conferencing, Christie Digital DLP projection, Crestron wireless touch panels, and iPad/Crestron emulation and wireless control.

All areas of the Innovation Centre are driven and controlled from a central AV room that houses Crestron control processing, Crestron Digital Media 8G + switching, BiAmp audio processing, media sources including 21 customer supplied Z600 HP workstations, Jupiter PixelNet input nodes and processing.

With the media source workstations being remotely located in one centralized area, remote USB keyboard and mouse ports as well as USB ports were provided in each conference room.

GE Innovation Centre made its official launch to the world in June 2012 and will undoubtedly help the company reinforce its commitment to modernization and innovation in Canada.
