Applied Electronics Takes on Phase II with Fight Network, Adding to its On-Air Chain of HD Channels
Fight Network is Canada’s only TV channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, including fights, fighters, fight news, and fight lifestyle. Awarded specialty channel licenses for Fantasy and Edge, Fight Network is carried nationally on all major cable, satellite and telco systems in Canada and the United States, and is available on multiple platforms, including TV, web, mobile and radio.
In 2012, Applied Electronics worked closely with Fight Network to relocate their broadcast operations from Dundas Street to Liberty Village in downtown Toronto. Phase I included building a new state-of-the-art HD audio and video production and playout facility, as well as transitioning their workflows to automated processes.

Phase II of the project commenced in early 2014 and it involved adding capacity for two additional main (and backup) on-air channels to Fight Network’s on-air chains. Building out new infrastructure for the existing and additional channels without on-air interruptions and then migrating the systems to the new infrastructure was a complex challenge and required technical precision. Fight Network embarked on a substantial upgrade, which included the Evertz Mediator Playout system. Applied Electronics installed completely new storage, new playout channel servers and upgraded the video and networking infrastructure. Additionally, new positions in the Master Control were established for the new channels, along with new internal viewing areas for the staff responsible for managing these new channels.
While the migration of channels proved to be more complicated than first anticipated, Applied Electronics worked in close partnership with Fight Network’s technical team and external vendors to ensure that all new systems were seamlessly integrated into the existing systems and that the transition to the new systems for Fight Network’s staff occurred smoothly.
The new Fight Network channels went on the air in summer 2014 and are broadcasting in full HD.
“Applied Electronics has always been first class in our dealings with them,” says Anthony Cicione, General Manager of Anthem Media Group’s Fight Network. “Our projects, whether big or small, have always been accomplished on budget, on time and their follow-up service has always been immediate. I would highly recommend anyone to use Applied Electronics, if you want it done right and in a professional manner.”
“Fight Network is passionate about Television and they know what they want, how they want it done, and how to get there,” says Peter Gillespie, Manager of the Broadcast Systems Group at Applied Electronics. “Working with Fight Network has been a pleasure because there is never any ambiguity regarding where we are going and how we need to get there.”
