Applied Electronics Helps City of Calgary Keep More Than an Eye on Traffic at the New Calgary Transit Operations Control Centre
Working under the framework and guidance of Hatch and Macro, Applied Electronics supplied and integrated three large video monitoring walls at the new Calgary Transit Operations Control Centre (OCC) to increase visibility and efficient management of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) train system, the bus and ground transport services, and the extensive CCTV security system.
Used exclusively for LRT track management, the control centre’s main video display wall boasts a curved 9x2 array of eighteen front access 70-inch Barco ODLF-271 laser-lit rear-projection cubes. This application is the first laser cube installation in Canada and one of the fsirt globally.
Flanking the main video wall is a curved 10x2 and a 2x2 array of 55-inch Barco OverView KVD-5521 near-seamless LCD panels. The larger peripheral video wall is tied in to a Genetec Omnicast IP video management system and is used to monitor the Life Safety platforms and other CCTV camera feeds; while the smaller video wall is used exclusively for Handi-Bus schedule management.
To manage all video wall content, the system is driven by a Barco TransForm N display management system with CMS software.
The Barco OpSpace solution, implemented to manage all desktop applications, allows the eleven operator positions in the control centre full control of the 85 video monitors and access to over 200 subsystem applications on the network with just a keyboard and mouse per console, while all workstations and PC’s are remotely located in the server room.
While Applied Electronics completed the integration of the Calgary Transit Operations Control Centre in early 2018, this installation marks the largest OpSpace installation in North America.
