University of Montreal - Assembly Room

Located in Montréal, Quebec, the University of Montreal is the largest university in Quebec and the second largest in Canada; with the language of instruction and administration completely spoken in French, the University of Montréal is one of the top French-speaking universities in the world.

Applied Electronics was hired by the school to design and integrate a new digital congress system with card readers and delegate voting systems for the Assembly Room. The room, which seats 120 delegates is equipped with the TAIDEN multimedia congress conferencing system and supports all delegate seating units and six VIP paperless units for document sharing. With the integration of the VIP paperless units, the university staff hopes and expects it will help eliminate the need to distribute costly amounts of printing hard copy documents, sharing agendas and media presented to the room.

The full integrated room is the first of its kind in the university that is equipped with high definition and complete audio visual presentation systems. Three projectors were installed to display delegate request lists, assembly questions as well as computer and video presentations. In addition two large screen 80-inch flat monitors were placed in the room to display voting results and additional points of view for delegates to review. Overhead the room is a HD ceiling camera, which was mounted and installed to capture and display important documents.

Since there is no on-site full-time technician to monitor the control system, Applied Electronics technicians created a simplified, user-friendly Crestron control interface for any delegate to operate.  A “classroom mode” setting was added to the interface where the room can be used for large conferences and presentations. In addition, the room offers versatility to the university staff, accommodating auxiliary connections for special events, room recording and even videoconferencing.
